Chena is used as a vegetable. It is a type of tuber(kezhangu) formed under the ground.
It has to be boiled/cooked before being eaten. Some varieties can cause itches.
For propagation the mature chena with a shoot at the centre is usually cut into 4 pieces(depending on the size),
each containing a part of the shoot and the pieces are planted
